The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly detained former Delta State Governor and 2023 vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for questioning regarding allegations of financial misconduct.

According to CableNews24 report, sources indicate that Okowa was apprehended by EFCC operatives at their Port Harcourt Zonal Office on charges related to the alleged misappropriation of Delta State funds during his tenure as governor. The accusations involve substantial sums allegedly embezzled or mishandled under his administration.

Okowa, who served as governor from 2015 to 2019, held the vice-presidential ticket alongside Atiku Abubakar in the recent general elections.
However, while EFCC officials have not yet confirmed Okowa’s arrest or provided details on the ongoing investigation, this development adds to the list of recent high-profile cases highlighting Nigeria’s battle against corruption within the political elite.
