Scandal shakes Equatorial Guinea: Top financial official ‘Bello’ Engonga exposed in affairs with 400 women, including wives of high-ranking officials
In an unfolding scandal that has captivated Equatorial Guinea and reverberated across media channels, Baltasar Engonga, the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), faces a public outcry after reportedly engaging in sexual relations with over 400 women, many of whom are high-profile figures or married to influential personalities in the country. Engonga, often known as “Bello,” is now at the center of both legal and ethical debates concerning the conduct of public officials.
The discovery emerged during an anti-corruption investigation, in which officials searching Engonga’s office and residence found numerous tapes featuring his encounters with these women. Among those reportedly involved are wives of senior government officials, including ministers, police officials, and even relatives of the country’s president. This scandal has not only raised eyebrows but prompted serious discussions about the integrity of public officials and the need for systemic reform.
“The most striking thing is that some scenes took place in his work office, including moments in which he is seen sleeping with a woman next to the National Flag. Based on this sexual scandal, the Executive has stated that the measure is a direct response to the acts that have affected the image of the country.
“With these new measures, the Government hopes to establish a clear precedent on the expected conduct of public officials in order to create a more respectful work environment in the public and private administration of Equatorial Guinea. For days now, erotic videos have been circulating on social media featuring Baltasar EBANG ENGONGA, better known as “Bello”, who is currently the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF) and is currently imprisoned for alleged corruption issues.
“Baltasar EBANG ENGONGA is said to have filmed these scenes with the consent of the women themselves, which exonerates him from a possible crime of violation of integrity. In the videos, he is seen having unprotected sex with several women, including those married to powerful and well-known people in the country, but also with the most “diva and influential” single women in Equatorial Guinea.
Some scenes take place in hotel rooms, houses, even in the protagonist’s office at the Ministry of Finance,” the report stated.
According to CableNews24, the tapes, some recorded in Engonga’s own office at times with the national flag in view were consensual, which legally exempts Engonga from accusations of coercion. However, the Attorney General of Equatorial Guinea, Nzang Nguema, noted that while no legal infringement may have occurred, the moral implications are significant. He emphasized the importance of creating a supportive environment for victims to report incidents of abuse or assault, should any exist, and also highlighted potential public health risks linked to the alleged activities.
In response to the scandal, the government has announced a suspension of officials implicated in using government facilities for inappropriate conduct. Vice President Nguema Mangue expressed that the actions of these officials violate both the Code of Conduct and the Public Ethics Law, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to uphold standards of public service. “Ethics and respect are fundamental in our Administration,” Mangue stated on social media, underscoring that any behavior that jeopardizes public trust will be met with zero tolerance.
