In a dazzling celebration of the holiday season, United Bank for Africa (UBA) has brightened Lagos Marina with its annual Garden Light-Up ceremony. Organized by the bank’s corporate social responsibility arm, the UBA Foundation, the event symbolized the bank’s commitment to fostering community and goodwill during the festive period.

The ceremony, held on Tuesday, showcased a vibrant display of lights, fireworks, and musical performances. It served not only as a spectacle but also as a rallying call for compassion and unity, reinforcing the bank’s values of giving back and creating meaningful connections.

UBA’s Group Managing Director/CEO, Oliver Alawuba, highlighted the event’s significance as a reflection of the bank’s appreciation for its staff, customers, and the broader community. “As we approach Christmas, a time of love, we remember the spirit of giving and community. I would like to express gratitude to every one of you. We are happy and grateful for all your sacrifices and contributions, especially during what has been a difficult year.

“I am particularly grateful to the board of UBA, led by our own Chairman, Tony Elumelu. I would also like to thank the entire executive management team – including Our ED/CEOs from America, and all our management team. We appreciate the work they have done so far,” he remarked.

Alawuba praised the contributions of UBA’s leadership and employees, while urging attendees to extend the festive spirit to their neighbors. “This ceremony is a reflection of our belief in the importance of family, unity, and giving back to the communities we serve. Together, we have achieved remarkable milestones, and we look forward to an even brighter future; I, therefore, encourage each of you: when you go home, touch your neighbour’s life. By spreading kindness and light,” he added.

The evening was filled with heartwarming moments, including carols sung by the UBA Customer Fulfilment Centre choir and a guided tour of the beautifully decorated UBA Foundation gardens. Attendees left inspired, with fireworks marking the grand finale of the celebration.

Beyond the event, UBA Foundation reaffirmed its dedication to addressing socio-economic challenges in its host communities. This festive season, the Foundation plans to feed tens of thousands across Africa, emphasizing its focus on education, environmental sustainability, and economic empowerment.
