Lagos state, Pernod Ricard champion sustainability with upcycled christmas tree initiative 

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in collaboration with Pernod Ricard Nigeria, will unveil an innovative Christmas tree constructed entirely from upcycled materials.

The tree, which will be displayed at the Ikeja City Mall car park on December 21, 2024, has been created using approximately 2,500 empty Jameson bottles. This initiative, themed ‘Sustainability Meets Festivity’, underscores a growing movement towards circular economies and creative reuse of materials.

The Managing Director of Pernod Ricard Nigeria, Michael Ehindero, described the project as a blend of art and environmental responsibility. “The initiative seeks to promote sustainability and environmental awareness, showcasing creative re-use of materials to foster community engagement and social responsibility,” he said.

The unveiling will feature a 12-day activation campaign aligned with the “Twelve Days of Christmas”, further demonstrating the winemaker’s commitment to raising awareness about environmental conservation, particularly among young Nigerians.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s involvement highlights Lagos State’s broader agenda for sustainable development. According to Pernod Ricard, the partnership reflects the governor’s vision for a circular economy, where resources are reused and environmental impact is minimized.

“This collaboration stems from Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to promoting a circular economy, which strongly aligns with Pernod Ricard Nigeria’s Sustainability and Responsibility Roadmap,” Ehindero added.

Pernod Ricard Nigeria further disclosed It hope that this initiative will inspire Lagosians to embrace greener, more sustainable lifestyles, especially during the festive season.
