Lagos security gets boost as UBA donates N500m to trust fund

The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has donated N500 million to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), underscoring the critical role of public-private partnerships in addressing safety challenges.

The donation, made through UBA Foundation UBA’s corporate social responsibility arm was formally presented to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the State House, Marina, recently. The presentation was led by UBA Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, alongside the bank’s Deputy Managing Director, Mr. Muyiwa Akinyemi.

Elumelu, in his remarks, emphasized the direct correlation between security and economic development, noting that a secure environment is pivotal to attracting investments and fostering prosperity.

“At UBA, we understand that security is critical for economic growth and societal well-being. Our donation to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund is a reflection of the bank’s belief in building safer communities to enhance the quality of life for all.

We are proud to partner with the Lagos State Government to achieve this shared vision of a secure environment conducive to investment and development,” he said.

The UBA Chairman further highlighted the bank’s dedication to collaborative solutions for societal challenges, calling security a shared responsibility stating, “This partnership with the Lagos State Government reinforces the bank’s belief in collaborative efforts as the key to addressing security challenges and creating environments where individuals and businesses can thrive.

We believe that a secure Lagos State is integral to a secure Nigeria. UBA Foundation will continue to support transformative initiatives that uplift lives and drive development.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu lauded UBA for the significant support, describing it as timely and instrumental in reinforcing the state’s ongoing security initiatives. “We are grateful to the UBA Group for their significant contribution to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund. This donation will strengthen our efforts to enhance security and protect our citizens. Together we are building a safer Lagos for all,” the governor stated.

The Lagos State Security Trust Fund, established to mobilize resources for equipping and maintaining security agencies in the state, has become a vital tool in the government’s strategy to tackle crime and enhance public safety.

UBA Foundation’s involvement aligns with its broader mission of driving transformative change in communities through strategic partnerships.
