The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has announced a transformative shift in its examination process, marking a significant milestone for the institute. Starting April 2025, the institute will fully adopt computer-based testing (CBT) for its Professional Examinations I and II, expanding on its successful pilot for foundation-level students.

In a statement issued by the Registrar and Chief Executive, Afolake Oso, CITN disclosed the move as part of broader efforts to modernise its examination system, enhance efficiency, and improve the candidate experience. The transition coincides with the introduction of a newly reviewed syllabus designed to align with the changing dynamics of the tax profession.

Despite the progressive reforms, CITN expressed concern over the low attendance at its CBT sensitisation programmes. These sessions, held on four Thursdays before each examination diet, are designed to familiarise students with the CBT platform and provide mock examination experiences.

“We strongly encourage current and prospective students to take full advantage of the sensitisation programs,” the institute stated.

Beyond attending sensitisation sessions, CITN urged students to enrol in accredited tuition centres, use recommended study materials, and maintain consistent preparation to excel in the new format.

“The CITN is dedicated to improving the quality of its examinations to sustain the high standards of the tax profession.

“As CITN moves forward with these reforms, students are encouraged to embrace the changes and leverage the resources available to excel in their careers as tax professionals,” the institute emphasised.

As part of its ongoing efforts to empower candidates, CITN described the upcoming exams as an opportunity for professional advancement. It encouraged students to embrace the changes, leverage available resources, and view the reforms as a pathway to excelling in their tax careers.
