NCS prioritizes workforce development, promotes over 1,400 junior officers

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the promotion of 1,419 junior officers.

The decision, approved during the 10th Management meeting chaired by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, was revealed in a statement by the National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada. According to the statement, the promotions covered officers from General Duty and Support Staff categories who excelled in the recently concluded 2024 promotion exercise.

“This significant decision was ratified during the 10th Management meeting, chaired by the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, on November 29, 2024.

“The comprehensive promotion list encompasses both General Duty and Support Staff who excelled in the 2024 promotion exercise,” the statement read.

The breakdown of the promotion list showed substantial advancements within the ranks: 346 General Duty and 384 Support Staff officers were elevated from Assistant Inspector of Customs to Inspector of Customs, Four General Duty and 13 Support Staff officers progressed from Customs Assistant I to Assistant Inspector of Customs, 372 General Duty and 59 Support Staff officers moved from Customs Assistant II to Customs Assistant I,188 General Duty and 54 Support Staff officers advanced from Customs Assistant III to Customs Assistant II.

CGC Adeniyi commended the promoted officers for their diligence and dedication, urging them to sustain their commitment to the Service’s core mandates of revenue generation, anti-smuggling efforts, and trade facilitation. He emphasized that the promotions aim to inspire a culture of excellence within the Service, encouraging employees to reach their full potential.

The Comptroller-General also disclosed that the promotion list for senior officers is under review and pending approval by the Nigeria Customs Service Board.
