The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has achieved a significant milestone by earning the prestigious ISO 9001:2015 certification. This recognition underscores the agency’s commitment to meeting international standards and enhancing air navigation services in Nigeria.
Following a rigorous certification audit conducted by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), CableNews24 reports that NAMA demonstrated compliance with critical operational criteria. The audit assessed operations at Nigeria’s five major international airports Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Enugu as well as the Aeronautical Information Services (AIS), charting, and publication processes. It also evaluated personnel competencies, working tools, office environments, and documentation standards.
At the certificate presentation ceremony held at the agency’s Lagos headquarters annex, the Managing Director of NAMA, Engr Ahmed Umar Farouk, represented by the Director of Air Traffic Services, Mr. John Tayo, highlighted the significance of the certification. “As a mandatory requirement of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPS), the attainment of the ISO certification is yet another landmark achievement by NAMA in its quest to continue to raise the bar in air navigation service provision,” he stated.
Engr Farouk emphasized the anticipated benefits of the certification, including enhanced customer satisfaction, timely service delivery, and reduced error rates. “For us in NAMA, this certification is a renewed assurance to airlines and other stakeholders that we are poised for excellence as we work assiduously towards enhancing the safety and reliability of the Nigerian airspace,” he added.
