Interswitch Group and Financial Services Innovators (FSI) have successfully trained 100 young Nigerians in critical software testing skills, marking a significant step towards bridging the skills gap in the country’s financial technology sector.

The FSI Intensive Software Testing Programme, sponsored by Interswitch, provided an intensive eight-week online training that equipped participants with practical skills in software quality assurance. This initiative aligns with Interswitch’s mission to promote a digitally inclusive society while nurturing innovation among the youth.

Participants in the programme included university students, tech enthusiasts, and budding innovators, reflecting a diverse pool of talent eager to make their mark in the technology sector. The training aimed to prepare these individuals to meet the demands of the fast-evolving software testing industry, ensuring the delivery of secure and high-quality software products.

Highlighting the programme’s success, the Managing Director of Digital Commerce and Merchant Acquiring at Interswitch, Muyiwa Asagba, emphasized the importance of empowering young minds. “Innovation thrives when young minds are given the tools to succeed, and Interswitch is proud to sponsor this initiative, which aligns with our vision of nurturing a digitally inclusive future. By investing in these talents and providing them with practical, industry-relevant skills in software testing, we are not just enhancing the software testing ecosystem but also nurturing a generation of innovators who will shape the future of financial services in Nigeria and beyond. Initiatives like this reaffirm our commitment to promoting a digitally inclusive society while positioning Interswitch as a catalyst for innovation across Africa,” he said.

In addition to technical skills, the initiative created opportunities for career advancement. Top-performing participants were awarded internships, enabling them to gain real-world experience and enhance their professional prospects.

Executive Director of FSI, Aituaz Kola-Oladejo, applauded the initiative, noting that 90 per cent of participants were tertiary institution students. She remarked, “This training underscores our unwavering commitment to youth empowerment through education and skills development. Our goal is to equip young people with the knowledge and tools they need to thrive in future technology-driven careers, enhancing their employability and positioning them as globally competitive professionals. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Interswitch for sponsoring this third cohort. Their support reflects a strong commitment to advancing technology ecosystem initiatives that drive national progress and innovation.”

Implemented through FSI’s Fintech Development and Advocacy Initiative, the programme represents a forward-thinking approach to addressing the disconnect between academia and the industry. By offering hands-on training tailored to market demands, the initiative positions young Nigerians as globally competitive professionals ready to drive innovation in the financial services sector.
