Aviation journalists receive training to enhance sector reporting
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), in partnership with the Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies, organized a training program for aviation journalists in Lagos.
The initiative aimed to bridge knowledge gaps and foster a collaborative relationship between the media and the aviation sector, emphasizing the importance of informed reporting in a highly technical industry.
Speaking at the event, FAAN’s Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, represented by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, underscored the pivotal role of education and personal development in leadership and effective service delivery. She highlighted the need for journalists to stay updated with sector-specific knowledge to ensure accurate and impactful reporting.
“Without continuous personal development, you will be rotten, you will be stuck, you will be stagnant; so, education is the fuel that drives every leader.
“When you talk about leadership, education is one of the key factors that propel every leader to the next level, and we are all leaders.
“We have passengers at our airports every day; we are to give them good customer service. If we are to give them quality service, you need to have the right training and the right skills,” Kuku stated.
The training also featured insights from key stakeholders. Professor Anthony Kila, an expert in strategy and development, emphasized the media’s role in promoting awareness and fostering growth within the aviation industry. According to him, “The best way to make users aware of the sector is to go through the media so that when they consume or read articles, they become informed.”
Former Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Dr. Mike Omeri, lauded FAAN’s leadership for its forward-thinking approach to repositioning the agency and prioritizing capacity building within the media.
