The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has prioritized road infrastructure with an allocation of N6.35 billion in the proposed 2025 executive budget. This is part of a broader strategy outlined in the N83.75 bllion capital expenditure plan recently unveiled by President Bola Tinubu.

While road infrastructure takes a notable share, the budget highlights a diverse set of development priorities. Key allocations include N23.84 billion for residential buildings, N11.65 billion for office construction, and N1.08 billion for water facilities. Additionally, the ministry has earmarked N10.37 billion for the rehabilitation of existing infrastructure, ensuring durability and functionality of national assets.

The commitment to addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit remains a central focus. Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Musa Dangiwa, emphasized the need for 550,000 new housing units annually over the next decade to bridge the gap. Speaking at a recent event in Abuja, Dangiwa noted significant strides under the Renewed Hope Agenda but called for enhanced funding.

“The Ministry needs a bigger budgetary allocation for housing units. We engaged the National Assembly recently and they have expressed willingness to support the N500bn budget for the Ministry in 2025,” he said.

The ministry’s approach reflects a balanced focus on both new projects and the maintenance of existing assets, such as public schools (N682 million), hospitals and health centers (N380 million), and other infrastructure projects (N25.36 billion). It also invests in operational tools, including motor vehicles (N120 million), computers (N26 million), and educational equipment (N200 million).
