Tony Elumelu foundation prioritizes AI, green initiatives in 2025 entrepreneurship programmes

The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), renowned for its commitment to fostering entrepreneurship across Africa, has officially opened applications for its 2025 entrepreneurship programmes.

This year’s initiatives reflect the foundation’s strategic focus on emerging trends like artificial intelligence and sustainability. According to a statement released on Monday, the flagship TEF Entrepreneurship Programme will give special consideration to businesses leveraging AI and green technology, positioning African entrepreneurs at the forefront of innovation and climate action.

Applications will be accepted via the foundation’s digital hub, TEFConnect, from January 1, 2025, to March 1, 2025. Eligible candidates must be African entrepreneurs with scalable business ideas or existing ventures not older than five years, and must be at least 18 years old.

Participants in the programme will receive world-class training, expert mentorship, and non-refundable seed funding to scale their businesses. Since its inception in 2010, TEF has disbursed over $100 million in direct funding to over 21,000 entrepreneurs, creating over 800,000 jobs and generating $4.2 billion in revenue across the continent.

In addition to the flagship programme, TEF is offering two specialized initiatives in collaboration with international partners: IYBA-WE4A Entrepreneurship Programme, Exclusively for women entrepreneurs, this programme focuses on green business ideas in Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, Cameroon, Kenya, Mozambique, Malawi, and Togo. Developed in partnership with the European Union and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, it aims to enhance women’s economic empowerment through sustainable ventures.

Aguka Ideation Programme : Targeted at Rwandan youth aged 18–30, this initiative, launched in collaboration with UNDP Rwanda and the Rwandan Ministry of Youths and Arts, provides $3,000 in seed capital to nurture innovative concepts into viable enterprises.
