NCS embraces IT innovation for transparent recruitment process

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has adopted advanced information technology systems to oversee its ongoing hiring procedures, sources have revealed to.

The NCS has introduced an automated platform designed to randomly select candidates for the upcoming computer-based test (CBT), ensuring fairness in the selection process. A reliable source within the service confirmed that the entire list of candidates to sit for the CBT will be generated using the automated system, eliminating human bias.

This move comes shortly after the Federal Government approved the recruitment of 3,927 new officers to join the Nigeria Customs Service, a crucial step in strengthening the country’s fiscal infrastructure. The announcement was made by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, who emphasized that the NCS’s contribution is vital to achieving Nigeria’s ambitious N48 trillion 2025 budget.

Speaking at the NCS’s 61st quarterly board meeting in Abuja, Edun highlighted the agency’s role in Nigeria’s economic recovery, especially in light of President Bola Tinubu’s recent budget proposal, which outlines a target revenue of N35 trillion. The Customs Service, which had already generated over N5 trillion in revenue by November 2024, is expected to play a central role in helping meet the budget’s targets.

” The NCS and other revenue bodies have performed remarkably well,” Edun said.

The board meeting, which followed the presentation of the 2025 budget to the National Assembly, also focused on the agency’s recent successes in combating smuggling and enhancing trade facilitation. In recognition of these achievements, the NCS is also implementing special promotions for top-performing personnel and approving the recruitment drive to address staffing needs and bolster the service’s capabilities.

In line with the recruitment drive, the NCS officially opened applications on Friday for various positions across Superintendent, Inspector, and Customs Assistant cadres. The service has warned potential applicants to be cautious of fraudsters exploiting the recruitment exercise for financial gain.
