Power woes deepen as Jos Disco grapples with grid constraints
The Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) has raised concerns over worsening power supply challenges across its franchise areas, attributing the issue to reduced load allocation from the national grid.
Speaking on the development, the Head of Corporate Communications, Saratu Dauda, disclosed that the company’s daily power allocation had plummeted to 102MW, significantly affecting electricity distribution to customers in Bauchi, Benue, Plateau, and Gombe states.
In response, JEDC has been forced to increase load-shedding efforts to manage the dwindling supply. “We have implemented load shedding across our network, ensuring an equitable distribution of available power,” Dauda stated.
Acknowledging the frustrations of affected customers, the company assured them that collaborative efforts with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) are underway to resolve the issue. “Please be assured that we are working closely with the Transmission Company of Nigeria to resolve this issue as soon as possible,” Dauda said.
The power distributor also expressed optimism that repair work on the 330kV Ugwuaji-Makurdi transmission line would soon be completed, paving the way for normal electricity distribution.
“We appreciate your understanding and patience during this challenging period. Our commitment to providing you with reliable and efficient service remains unwavering,” Dauda concluded.
