Investment In Education Pays Best Interest – Tunji Bello
Lagos, Nigeria: Renowned public servant and philanthropist, Mr. Olatunji Bello, has donated a state-of-the-art auditorium he built and donated to Lagos State University (LASU).

Cablenews24 reports that while addressing students, faculty, and dignitaries gathered for the event, Bello drew immediate inspiration from the words of American statesman Benjamin Franklin, prominently engraved at the auditorium’s entrance: “Investment in education pays the best interest.”

“No truer words have ever been said or spoken,” Tunji Bello declared. He expressed his sincere hope that the new facility would inspire students to “double your zeal to excel in your academic pursuit” and aspire to join the ranks of Nigerian academic giants like Ayodele Awojobi, Wole Soyinka, Chike Obi, and Olikoye Ransome-Kuti. “As parents, our fervent prayer is that you will be greater than us,” he added.
Bello highlighted the advantages modern students possess compared to past generations. “Technology has indeed made the world a global village… Today, the library is on your palm,” he stated, emphasizing that access to vast information removes any excuse for not excelling. “So, you have no excuse or reason not to excel.”

He attributed his own commitment to educational philanthropy to profound personal inspirations from his Father, Alhaji Azeez Olatunji Bello, whom he said donated a vast tract of land in Isolo, Lagos, in the 1950s to establish Ansar Ud Deen College.
“To my dad, there was no better way to demonstrate a deep faith in the power of education to transform the society.”
“Late Bashorun MKO Abiola, my late boss and mentor’s single announced endowments for universities across Nigeria in the late 1980s.
So also President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who donated his entire salary and allowances to charity upon becoming Lagos Governor in 1999, as well as Tinubu’s N1 billion endowment fund for LASU announced four years ago.” Bello stated
Tunji Bello similarly announced an additional benefits for students using the new auditorium:
“Free WiFi: Courtesy of VDT Communications, enhancing research and learning capabilities within the facility. He thanked VDT’s Managing Director, Mr. Biodun Omoniyi, a childhood friend.
One-Year Maintenance Pledge: Recognizing the challenge of maintaining public assets, Bello announced that a private management company, funded by another friend, would handle the auditorium’s maintenance for the first year. This period would allow LASU management to establish “appropriate and sustainable maintenance protocols” before assuming full responsibility,” He stated.
Bello framed the auditorium and the accompanying support as a tangible investment in the students’ potential. “As you can see, we are committed to your academic success,” he stated. “Let that inspire you to aim for academic excellence always.”
