Military Offensive in Borno-Operation HADIN KAI

By Love Oyedokun

In a significant blow to the Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist network, troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have successfully neutralized Abu Khalid, a high-ranking commander identified as the Second-in-Command of Boko Haram within the notorious Sambisa Forest. The operation, conducted under the cover of darkness in Borno State, resulted in the elimination of Abu Khalid along with ten other terrorists, marking a substantial victory in the ongoing fight against insurgency in the region.

Cablenews24 reports that the successful operation comes on the heels of another recent triumph, as troops eliminated the notorious Boko Haram/ISWAP commander, Julaibib, operating within the Gujba axis of the Timbuktu Triangle, just 24 hours prior. This latest success underscores the relentless pressure being applied to terrorist elements by the Joint Task Force.

According to reports, troops of Sector 1, in conjunction with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) on Operation DESERT SANITY, made contact with the terrorists at the Komala general area of Konduga Local Government Area during night offensives at approximately 11:00 p.m. The engagement was fierce, resulting in the complete neutralization of the targeted insurgents. Abu Khalid, as the Second-in-Command, was a key figure within the terrorist hierarchy, responsible for coordinating operations, logistics, and strategic planning within the Sambisa Forest axis. His elimination is expected to significantly disrupt the group’s capabilities and morale.

Following the successful engagement, troops conducted a thorough search of the area, recovering a significant cache of weapons and supplies. The recovered items included five (5) AK-47 rifles, multiple magazines, several bicycles used for transportation, assorted logistics and food items, as well as a substantial quantity of medical consumables. These recovered items provide further insight into the operational capabilities and logistical network of the Boko Haram/ISWAP group within the Sambisa Forest.

Importantly, no casualties were recorded among the own troops during the operation, a testament to the effectiveness of the planning and execution of the mission. Troops’ morale remains high as clearance operations continue across the Sambisa Forest, Mandara Mountains, Timbuktu Triangle, and other known hideouts of Boko Haram and ISWAP in the North East region. The Joint Task Force (North East) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to sustaining the current tempo of operations until all terrorist elements are neutralized and lasting peace and economic stability are restored to the region.

The Military High Command has expressed its strong commendation for the troops involved in the operation, acknowledging their sacrifices, dedication, and bravery in the fight against terrorism and other criminal activities in the North East region. The troops have been urged to maintain the operational tempo and continue to aggressively pursue and eliminate remaining terrorist elements. This latest success serves as a clear indication of the progress being made in the fight against insurgency and the commitment of the Nigerian military to securing the North East region and protecting its citizens. The ongoing operations are crucial for creating an environment conducive to the return of displaced communities and the rebuilding of infrastructure in the affected areas.
