Cablenews24 reports that the delegation, led by Lagos State Head of Service Mr. Olabode Agoro, was received by a team of Ogun State’s top officials including the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya; Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo; and Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya. Capt. Dapo Olumide, the Governor’s Consultant on Aviation, provided technical insights during the comprehensive site tour, guiding the Lagos Civil Service team through terminal construction zones, runway development areas, and future cargo handling facilities.
Regional Synergy and Economic Impact
Speaking amidst the bustling construction site, delegation members emphasized the transformative potential of the airport. “The scale and speed of this project are truly impressive,” stated one senior Lagos official. “Upon completion, the Gateway International Airport will significantly alleviate congestion at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, creating seamless connectivity for businesses and travelers across the South-West. This isn’t just an Ogun project – it’s a critical piece of infrastructure for the entire region’s economic future.” The delegation noted that enhanced air transport capacity would stimulate logistics, manufacturing, and tourism investments across neighboring states.
Cultural Heritage and Tourism Development
Following the airport inspection, the Lagos Civil Service team visited the iconic Olumo Rock in Abeokuta, recently restored by Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration as part of its cultural heritage revitalization program. Accompanied by local tour guides, the team explored newly installed walkways, viewing platforms, and interpretive centers detailing the rock’s historical significance as a sanctuary during 19th-century inter-tribal wars. “This world-class renovation transforms Olumo Rock into a premier eco-tourism destination,” remarked a Lagos delegate. “The preservation of history alongside modern amenities creates a powerful draw for domestic and international tourists, positioning Ogun State as a cultural tourism hub.”
Context of Collaboration
The tour formed part of a week-long governance immersion program hosted at the Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona School of Governance. Organized by the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, the initiative fosters inter-state knowledge exchange among senior civil servants. “Seeing Ogun’s landmark projects firsthand enriches our understanding of collaborative governance models,” stated Mr. Agoro. “Such initiatives demonstrate how states can drive regional progress through visionary leadership.”
Strategic Priority for Ogun State
The Gateway International Airport remains a flagship project in Governor Abiodun’s infrastructure agenda, designed to position Ogun as an aviation, logistics, and commercial gateway. With phased completion timelines underway, the facility is projected to handle passenger traffic, cargo operations, and maintenance services, complementing the state’s industrial growth corridors. The dual focus on cutting-edge infrastructure (the airport) and cultural preservation (Olumo Rock) reflects the administration’s balanced approach to sustainable development.

Commissioner for Works Engr. Akinsanya added: “Infrastructure like the airport and cultural assets like Olumo Rock are twin engines for prosperity. We’re building not just runways, but gateways to opportunity.”
