Report SGBV, Lagos Tells Citizens, Declares Zero Tolerance
By Love Oyedokun
Ikeja, Lagos –The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Based Violence Agency (DSVA), Titilola Vivor-Adeniyi, has called on all Lagosians to become active and report SGBV incidents, observe their communities and take appropriate action when they witness potential SGBV incidents.

Cablenews24 reports that her message came shortly after leading a significant advocacy walk, which commenced at the Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area headquarters and culminated at the Ikeja Local Government secretariat.
The walk, part of ongoing activities marking the Lagos State government’s stance against SGBV, saw participation from community members, officials, and civil society partners.
Addressing journalists at the conclusion of the walk, Vivor-Adeniyi emphasized the indiscriminate nature of SGBV. “Sexual and gender-based violence is not a respecter of age, class, or creed,” she stated unequivocally. “Indeed, anybody can be a victim or survivor.”
Her core message focused on the critical need for community vigilance, report SGBV and collective responsibility. She implored every individual to step up as a “mandatory reporter” of abuse.
“We are encouraging all of us to see ourselves as mandatory reporters,” Vivor-Adeniyi declared. “Let’s not wait until it happens to us or someone we know before we use our platforms to amplify the zero-tolerance message.”

She elaborated on what this proactive stance entails, calling for heightened awareness and decisive action from the public to report SGBV promptly when they occur:

“So we call on all Lagosians, call on Nigerians to remain active, remain observant. If you see something in the community, they should ensure that the needful is done: survivors are rescued, encourage the survivors to access justice, and perpetrators to be held responsible for their actions.”
This call reinforces the DSVA’s mandate to provide comprehensive support to survivors, including medical assistance, psycho-social counselling, legal aid, and temporary shelter, while ensuring perpetrators face the full weight of the law.

The advocacy walk served as a visible symbol of the state’s commitment and a platform to disseminate the “zero tolerance” message directly into communities. Vivor-Adeniyi’s passionate address underlined that combating SGBV is not solely the responsibility of government agencies but requires the active participation and vigilance of every citizen. Her message is clear: see something, say something, and ensure help and justice prevail.
