Lagos Devt. Plan Key to Nigeria’s $1 Trillion Goal, Says Sanwo-Olu

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has positioned Lagos State’s long-term development strategy as a crucial driver for President Bola Tinubu’s vision of transforming Nigeria into a $1 trillion economy by 2030 and a global power.

Cablenews24 reports that speaking at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs’ (NIIA) first Distinguished Lecture of 2025 in Lagos, titled “Lagos, Nigeria 2030: Projections of a World Power,” Sanwo-Olu declared the Lagos State Development Plan 2052 is a “strategic national asset,” not just a local blueprint.

He emphasized that Lagos, as Nigeria’s commercial powerhouse, is uniquely placed to propel the nation towards this ambitious economic target. “Synergy between national and subnational strategies is critical for sustainable development,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

Modern Infrastructure

A Human-Centric City

Effective Governance

These pillars, he explained, aim to transform Lagos into “Africa’s Model Mega City and a Global Economic and Financial Hub that is safe, secure, functional and productive.”

Sanwo-Olu also noted that Lagos’s current trajectory aligns with Nigeria’s historical economic frameworks like Vision 2010, Vision 20:2020, and the Nigeria Agenda 2050, all targeting middle-income global leadership for the nation.

The high-profile NIIA event gathered diplomats, scholars, civil society leaders, and policymakers to discuss Nigeria’s future global role.
