An Unforgettable Experience

Cablenews24 reports that with Afrobeats resonating across the Marina and sleek boats gliding silently, the event was more than just a race; it was a vibrant celebration of Lagos’ spirit and Nigeria’s commitment to sustainability. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu praised the event as a bold statement of intent, commending Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and First Bank for delivering a world-class experience.

Commitment to a Greener Future

At the opening ceremony, President Tinubu highlighted the E1 Powerboat series as a blend of entertainment and clean energy innovation, affirming Nigeria’s readiness to lead Africa’s transition to sustainable practices. Governor Sanwo-Olu echoed this sentiment, calling the championship a proud moment for Lagos and a testament to its global potential.

Star-Studded Attendance

The event attracted international sports icons and fans, including football legend Didier Drogba, who added a touch of celebrity to the festivities. Crowds filled the Lagos Lagoon and fan zones, enjoying the lively atmosphere, taking selfies, and celebrating the fusion of technology, culture, and sustainability.

First Bank’s Legacy of Innovation

For First Bank of Nigeria, sponsoring the E1 Lagos GP was about making history. Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head of Marketing, emphasized the bank’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, stating, “This race is a net-zero emitter,” reinforcing their dedication to a cleaner future.

An Electrifying Finale

The grand finale on Sunday saw Team Brazil clinch victory, with pilots Timmy Hansen and Leva Millere-Hagin leading their electric boat to triumph over Team Blue Rising and Team Drogba. As the sun set, the waterfront transformed into a dazzling display of lights and cheers, embodying the energetic spirit of Lagos.
