‘Eko Cares’ Reinforces Social Contract with N460 Million Aid

The Lagos State government delivered a significant financial boost Tuesday, disbursing ₦460 million in direct aid to 1,000 vulnerable citizens under the ongoing ‘Eko Cares’ Financial Assistance Programme.

Cablenews24 reports that speaking at the presentation ceremony in Ikeja, Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat emphasized that the initiative goes beyond mere infrastructure development; it solidifies the social contract built on compassion and trust between the government and its people.

“This presentation is a celebration of our shared humanity,” the Deputy Governor stated on behalf of Governor Sanwo-Olu. “It reminds us that progress is about how deeply we care for one another.”

This Online News Medium learnt that commitment to Ongoing Support The Governor reiterated that this disbursement is part of a sustained effort. He revealed that the administration distributed ₦1.1 billion to 2,477 residents in 2024 alone, with a further ₦1.6 billion budgeted this year for an additional 2,850 beneficiaries.

The administration assured that more aid would reach residents before year-end. Beneficiaries were admonished to treat the funds as a “seed of hope” intended to bolster businesses or bring domestic peace, noting that government opens doors, but determination keeps them open.

Dr. Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen, Special Adviser on Political Engagement, noted that the Eko Cares program, running since 2020, embodies the government’s commitment to equity and ensuring no resident is left behind in Lagos’s development journey.
