“Budget Must Meet Lagosians’ Needs” – Speaker Obasa

Lagos, Nigeria – The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has emphasized that the state’s proposed ₦4.237 trillion 2026 budget must directly address the pressing needs and aspirations of Lagosians.

Obasa made the declaration on Tuesday during Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s formal presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill at the Lagos Assembly Complex in Alausa, Ikeja.

“This budget must reflect the people’s priorities—better infrastructure, quality healthcare, improved education, and economic opportunities,” Obasa stated. “We will scrutinize it thoroughly to ensure it aligns with the real needs of Lagos residents.”

The Speaker commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for the budget’s focus on human development, infrastructure, and economic growth but stressed that implementation must be transparent and impactful.

“Lagosians deserve tangible results, not just figures on paper,” he added. “The House will conduct rigorous oversight to guarantee that every allocated naira serves its purpose.”

The budget, tagged “Budget of Shared Prosperity,” includes ₦2.185 trillion for capital projects and ₦2.052 trillion for recurrent expenditure. Key sectors like economic affairs (₦1.37 trillion), health (₦338 billion), and education (₦249 billion) received major allocations.

Obasa assured that the Assembly would fast-track the budget’s passage while ensuring it meets the highest standards of accountability.

“We will work with the executive to deliver a budget that truly uplifts Lagos,” he concluded. “The people’s welfare remains our top priority.”
