AFRIMA, UK Unite to Elevate African Music Globally

Lagos, Nigeria – The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) and the British High Commission in Nigeria have announced a landmark cultural partnership to strengthen creative exchange and expand global opportunities for African artists. The collaboration comes ahead of the 9th AFRIMA Awards scheduled for January 7-11, 2026, in Lagos.

Cablenews24 reports that under a newly signed Cultural Cooperation Agreement, the British Deputy High Commission in Lagos will co-host the Welcome Soirée on January 7, 2026, officially kicking off the AFRIMA Awards Week. The high-profile event will bring together African Union officials, AFRIMA delegates, international guests, nominees, and media for an evening of networking and cultural celebration.

AFRIMA’s Chief Experience Officer, Adenrele Niyi, described the partnership as a strategic step in elevating African music worldwide. “This alliance reinforces our mission to showcase African creativity on a global scale,” she said. “Beyond awards, we’re building bridges for talent, collaboration, and industry growth. Partnering with the British High Commission amplifies these opportunities.”

Gill Lever OBE, Chargé d’Affaires of the British High Commission Nigeria, emphasized the UK’s commitment to fostering cultural ties. “African music is a global phenomenon, and we’re proud to support its vibrant industry,” she said. “This partnership reflects our shared vision for creative exchange, much like our popular ‘Jollof and Tea’ campaign that celebrates cultural connections.”

The 9th AFRIMA, organized in partnership with the African Union Commission and the Lagos State Government, will feature a packed schedule, including:

• Diamond Showcase (Jan 7–8)
• Africa Music Business Summit (Jan 8)
• Music Village Concert (Jan 9)
• Nominees & Industry Party (Jan 10)
• Grand Awards Night (Jan 11)

The awards ceremony will be broadcast live in 84+ countries, showcasing Africa’s musical excellence to the world. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in promoting cultural diplomacy and unlocking new opportunities for African artists on the international stage.
