By Love Ikuku-Oyedokun
Lagos, Nigeria – Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, showcased his culinary skills at the 2025 Lagos Food Festival, joining chefs to prepare and sample seafood rice with stir-fried spinach at the vibrant event.
Cablenews24reports that held at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, under the theme “Taste Beyond Borders,” the festival brought together families, food vendors, and culinary enthusiasts to celebrate Lagos’ diverse food culture. Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the annual event not only promotes unity but has also empowered numerous entrepreneurs in the state’s thriving food industry.
“The Lagos Food Festival is more than just a celebration—it’s a platform for economic growth,” Sanwo-Olu said. “Through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, we’ve supported countless food entrepreneurs, creating opportunities for innovation and business expansion.”
He highlighted the festival’s role in showcasing Lagos’ rich culinary heritage while fostering fun and family bonding. “Food tells our story. Today, I cooked, tasted, and enjoyed the creativity of our local chefs. This is what Lagos represents—diversity, talent, and enterprise,” he added.
This Online News Medium understands that earlier in the day, Sanwo-Olu also attended an art exhibition featuring works by 40 Lagos-based artists. He praised their contributions, stating, “Art, like food, defines Lagos. We must continue to nurture creativity across all sectors to keep our state vibrant and inclusive.”
Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, noted that the festival highlights the government’s efforts to uplift food industry stakeholders. “Many vendors and chefs have gained recognition through this platform,” she said. “We’re proud to celebrate the people who make Lagos a culinary hub.”
She said: “Lagos Food Festival is a celebration of everything Lagos: the culinary culture, tradition, entertainment and everything that makes Lagos, Lagos. Lagos is very diverse and multicultural, and we believe that in celebrating everything that is Lagos, food is the embodiment of that, and we, as the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, are the curators and the custodians of that.
“It is best that we celebrate all of our value food chain actors, and the Lagos Food Festival is the place to do so. It also helps to give exposure to our food actors. We have had many stars made from the Lagos Food Festival just by reason of Mr Governor cooking, tasting their foods and giving a word of encouragement.
“So this is an avenue for us as the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems to solidify all of our interventions over the years and to celebrate everyone that makes it possible for all of us to eat in Lagos.”
The event attracted top government officials, lawmakers, traditional leaders, celebrity chefs, and students, with live cooking competitions and prizes awarded to standout participants.
