Abuja, Nigeria – Farouk Ahmed, former Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), may be getting more than he bargained for, as Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), has formally petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate him over allegations of corruption and abuse of office.

Cablenews24 reports that the petition, filed by Dangote’s lead counsel, Dr. O.J. Onoja (SAN), accuses Ahmed of living beyond his legitimate means, citing exorbitant education expenses for his children in elite Swiss schools.

Key allegations against the former Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), includes:

  • Multi-Million Dollar School Fees: Four of Ahmed’s children attended prestigious Swiss secondary schools—Montreux School, Aiglon College, Institut Le Rosey, and La Garenne International School—with estimated costs of $5 million for their secondary education alone.
  • Harvard MBA Expenses: One child reportedly spent $210,000 on a 2025 Harvard MBA program.
  • Questionable Wealth: Dangote questioned the source of these funds, noting that many Nigerians struggle with basic education costs.

The petition urges the EFCC to:

  1. Investigate Ahmed for abuse of office and corrupt enrichment.
  2. Prosecute him if found culpable.
  3. Use the case as a deterrent against public sector corruption.

Dangote’s legal team referenced past high-profile convictions to emphasize the EFCC’s capacity to secure justice.

The petition was initially filed with the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) but was withdrawn for faster prosecution under the EFCC, which has a stronger track record in financial crime cases.

This Online News Medium learnt that this move reinforces Dangote’s push for accountability in Nigeria’s oil sector, following his December 2025 allegations against Ahmed.

The case has sparked debate on regulatory integrity, with many Nigerians demanding answers on how a public official could afford such lavish spending.

The EFCC is expected to commence investigations soon. If proven guilty, Ahmed could face forfeiture of assets and imprisonment.
