Atilola Dominates: Nigeria’s U-14 Tennis Star Ranks 15th in Africa
Nigeria’s rising tennis star, Mofifunoluwa Atilola, has stormed into 2026 as the country’s undisputed U-14 girls’ champion, cementing her status as one of Africa’s brightest young talents.
According to the latest rankings released by the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT), the Lagos-based prodigy now sits at 15th in Africa and 2nd in West Africa, showcasing her dominance on the court.
At just 12 years old, Atilola has taken Nigerian tennis by storm, sweeping nearly every domestic tournament she entered in 2025. Her transition to the international stage has been equally impressive, proving she can compete beyond home soil.
“Mofifunoluwa’s rise has been phenomenal,” said a local tennis coach. “Her discipline and skill set her apart, and she’s only getting better.”
While Atilola leads the charge, other Nigerian girls are also making waves:
- Rorisa Jatto (13) – Ranked 39th in Africa
- Emmanuella Kwange – Breaks into the top 50 at 44th
- Dabira Oluwaseyi – Holds the 134th spot
However, the boys’ division tells a different story. Nigeria currently has no players in the African U-14 boys’ rankings, following the exit of former West African No. 1, Chukwudubem Amasiani, who has aged out of the category.
The absence highlights a pressing need for new male talents to step up and restore Nigeria’s presence in junior tennis.
As the 2026 season unfolds, all eyes will be on Atilola’s quest to crack Africa’s top 10—and whether a new generation of Nigerian boys can rise to the challenge.
