The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially clarified the status of Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, confirming that he will be available for Nigeria’s upcoming semi-final match. This comes after widespread speculation over whether his yellow card in the quarter-final would lead to a suspension.

Cablenews24 reports that in an official communication to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), CAF confirmed that while Nwabali’s caution was correctly recorded, it did not meet the threshold for suspension. The goalkeeper had not accumulated enough yellow cards to warrant a ban, allowing him to feature in the crucial semi-final clash.

The continental football body stated that Nwabali’s yellow card was reviewed following public debate but remained valid under tournament regulations. However, since it was only his first booking in the knockout stage, he avoided suspension. The clarification brought relief to the Super Eagles camp, which had been uncertain about his availability.

Alongside the update on Nwabali, CAF also sent the NFF a list of Super Eagles players who will miss the semi-final due to accumulated yellow cards. Under CAF rules, players receive an automatic one-match suspension after collecting two yellow cards in the tournament.

While bookings from the group stage were wiped clean after the quarter-finals, cautions received in the knockout phase remain active. The absence of the suspended players presents a challenge for Nigeria as they prepare for their semi-final fixture.

Sources within the NFF confirmed that the federation received CAF’s communication and has since relayed the information to the technical crew. The coaching staff has adjusted training sessions to account for the unavailable players, ensuring tactical readiness despite the setbacks.

The Super Eagles remain focused and determined as they aim to secure a place in the AFCON final. Discipline and strategic execution will be key factors in their quest for victory. With Nwabali cleared to play, Nigeria retains a crucial part of its defensive structure, boosting confidence ahead of the high-stakes encounter.
