Morocco’s Diaz: ‘My Soul Hurts’ After Missed AFCON Penalty

Real Madrid and Morocco winger Brahim Diaz has issued a sincere apology to Moroccan fans following his missed penalty in the AFCON 2025 final against Senegal, a moment that proved decisive in Morocco’s defeat.

Cablenews24 reports that in a statement shared via Fabrizio Romano on Monday, Diaz conveyed his deep disappointment and sense of responsibility. “My soul hurts,” he wrote. “I dreamed of this title thanks to all the love you all gave me, every message, every show of support that made me feel I wasn’t alone. I fought with everything I had, with my heart above all else.”

Diaz accepted full responsibility for the missed penalty, stating, “Yesterday I failed and I take full responsibility. I apologise from the bottom of my heart.”

Acknowledging the difficulty of overcoming the setback, Diaz described the experience as “a wound that doesn’t heal easily.” However, he emphasized his unwavering determination to persevere, not only for himself but also for the fans and the Moroccan people. “I will keep going forward until one day I can give you all this love back and become a source of pride for my Moroccan people,” he affirmed.
