Army Raid Bandit Camp, Scores Killed

By Love Oyedokun

Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State – February 2, 2026 – Nigerian Army troops, operating under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully neutralized scores of bandits in a fierce firefight at the stronghold of notorious bandit leader Gwaska Dan Karmi. The operation, which took place on January 31, 2026, was launched following credible intelligence reports indicating a large gathering of bandits planning attacks on local communities and military supply lines.

Cablenews24 reports that according to a statement released by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations for 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the operation was triggered by intelligence revealing that over 100 bandits had converged at the camp to coordinate their activities.

After days of intensive surveillance, ground troops, supported by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), intercepted the bandits. A fierce gun battle ensued as the terrorists attempted to flank and encircle the troops. However, the superior firepower of the Nigerian Army proved decisive, overwhelming the bandits and forcing them to flee with gunshot wounds. The troops subsequently set the camp ablaze before withdrawing.

The NAF is currently conducting interdiction missions to intercept the fleeing remnants of the bandit group, while ground troops maintain dominance over the area to prevent any regrouping or further attacks.

Tragically, the operation resulted in casualties among the Nigerian Army ranks. “Regrettably, some gallant soldiers paid the supreme price during the fierce encounter,” Lieutenant Colonel Osoba stated. Additionally, one combat enabler vehicle was struck by the enemy’s Rocket Propelled Gun, causing it to catch fire.

The Nigerian Army honored the fallen soldiers’ sacrifice and reaffirmed its unwavering determination to continue its mission to dismantle bandit networks and disrupt their supply chains across the region. Despite the losses, the Army emphasized that combat efficiency remains high.

The successful raid on Gwaska Dan Karmi’s stronghold represents a significant blow to banditry in the region. The operation is expected to disrupt the bandits’ ability to coordinate attacks and maintain their supply lines, contributing to improved security for local communities.

The Nigerian Army has vowed to continue its operations against banditry and other criminal activities in the region, working to ensure the safety and security of all citizens. The Army also called on local communities to provide information and support to the troops in their efforts to combat banditry.
