Operation Hadin Kai Repels Coordinated Terrorist Attack in Yobe

Yobe State, Nigeria – Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), operating under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), successfully repelled a coordinated assault by ISWAP terrorists on their location in Goniri, Yobe State, resulting in the neutralization of over 20 insurgents. The fierce battle, which unfolded from the night of Monday, March 9th, 2026, into the early hours of Tuesday, March 10th, underscores the ongoing threat posed by terrorist groups in the region, as well as the resilience and effectiveness of Nigerian military forces.

Cablenews24 reports that according to a press release issued by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for OPHK, the terrorists launched their attack from multiple directions, attempting to encircle the military location. Surveillance assets detected the insurgents advancing simultaneously from Goniri village and the Ngamdu junction axis, indicating a well-planned and coordinated offensive.

However, the troops of Sector 2, stationed in Goniri, demonstrated exceptional vigilance and courage, responding swiftly with superior firepower and tactical maneuvering. Coordinating their defensive actions effectively, they managed to blunt the initial assault and prevent the terrorists from gaining ground.

Recognizing the intensity of the attack, reinforcements were promptly mobilized to bolster the defense. Crucially, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai provided timely and decisive close air support, significantly degrading the terrorists’ combat capabilities and disrupting their advance. This aerial intervention proved instrumental in turning the tide of the battle.

The ensuing firefight was intense, with the terrorists ultimately overwhelmed and forced to retreat in disarray. The coordinated response by ground troops and air support resulted in heavy casualties for the insurgents. Over 20 terrorists were confirmed neutralized, including a senior commander identified as Abu Yusu, who held the position of “Munzir of Dursula” within the ISWAP ranks. His death is a significant blow to the terrorist group’s operational capabilities in the region.

Following the failed attack, troops conducted a thorough search of the area, recovering numerous terrorist bodies along with a cache of weapons and equipment abandoned during the retreat. The recovered items included multiple machine guns, AK-47 rifles, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), bombs, and assorted ammunition of various calibers, highlighting the scale and sophistication of the planned attack.

Further exploitation and clearance operations by troops in the general area of Gwaigomari, within the Timbuktu Triangle, led to the discovery of additional terrorist bodies during follow-up patrols conducted up to the early hours of Wednesday, March 11th, 2026. This indicates that the terrorists suffered even more casualties than initially assessed during the intense fighting.

While the vast majority of the task force repelled the attack unscathed, troops who sustained injuries during the encounter were immediately evacuated for medical attention and are currently reported to be in stable condition. The military location in Goniri remains firmly under the control of Operation Hadin Kai troops.

In the aftermath of the battle, ground forces, supported by the Air Component, are currently conducting aggressive follow-up operations in the surrounding areas. Additional search and clearance operations are ongoing in nearby communities, where some wounded terrorists are suspected to have fled. The goal is to eliminate any remaining threat and prevent the insurgents from regrouping.

The successful defense of Goniri serves as a testament to the dedication and effectiveness of Operation Hadin Kai in its ongoing mission to combat terrorism and restore lasting peace and security across the North-East region. The Military High Command has commended the troops for their gallantry and resilience, urging them to sustain the operational tempo and continue to pursue the complete defeat of terrorism in the region.
