Tinubu commissions projects in Lagos

In a display of synergy between the Federal Government and the Lagos State administration, a suite of transformative projects was officially inaugurated this Wednesday. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, presided over the commissioning, emphasizing that Lagos State remains the preeminent benchmark for sustainable urban development in Nigeria.

Cablenews24 reports that the event, which saw the unveiling of key transportation and administrative infrastructure, served as a platform for federal leaders to reaffirm their support for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s ongoing developmental initiatives.

Addressing the audience on behalf of the President, Senate President Godswill Akpabio noted that while he had prior international engagements, the significance of the event necessitated his presence. He characterized President Tinubu as a visionary whose foundational policies during his tenure as Governor of Lagos laid the groundwork for the state’s current status as a premier African economic hub.

“Lagos is working, Lagos is moving forward, and Lagos is setting examples,” Akpabio declared. He emphasized that the newly unveiled structures are not merely physical assets but symbols of a government that prioritizes the lived experience of its citizens. According to Akpabio, the Federal Government views Lagos as a vital partner in its broader national agenda to modernize the economy through digital integration and enhanced productivity.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu utilized the occasion to highlight the “THEMES+” agenda, stressing that his administration is driven by measurable outcomes rather than abstract planning. He noted that these projects were specifically chosen to alleviate the pressures of a dense megacity while fostering long-term institutional growth.

Key Projects Commissioned

Project Primary Function Significance
Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge Transportation A 5.04km corridor designed to decongest the Ikeja-Maryland-Ojota axis.
LAGIS Building Digital Governance Digitizes land administration to improve property rights and the ease of doing business.
BAT Administrative Complex Public Service A multi-agency hub meant to centralize and improve inter-agency efficiency.

The Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge , in particular, was highlighted for its modern features, including integrated bicycle lanes, pedestrian walkways, and sustainable solar-powered lighting, reflecting a commitment to modern urban planning standards.

Governor Sanwo-Olu remarked that the naming of the Administrative Complex after President Tinubu was a tribute to the “structural foundation” the President established decades ago—a foundation that current leaders continue to build upon.

The Governor also pointed to the growing cooperation between the state and the federal government. He highlighted major ongoing collaborations, such as the construction of the coastal highway and significant upgrades to port facilities, as proof that Lagos is central to the nation’s economic recovery.

With the clock ticking toward the end of his current tenure, Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s resolve to continue delivering results. “The true measure of governance is not in plans but in results,” he noted, pledging that his team would maintain the momentum of delivery to ensure that the infrastructure serves the state for generations to come.

The event concluded with an appeal for residents to take ownership of these facilities, viewing them as long-term investments in their own quality of life. As Lagos continues to innovate, the consensus among both federal and state officials is that the state is not just a commercial center, but a living laboratory for effective governance that the rest of the nation can confidently emulate.
