“Nigeria Will Be Greater” – Sanwo-Olu’s New Year Message

Lagos, Nigeria – Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu ushered in the New Year with prayers for Nigeria and Lagos State, attending both Christian and Muslim services on Monday as a symbol of unity and faith.

Cablenews24 reports that the governor joined worshippers at the State House Chapel in Marina for a Christian service before proceeding to a mosque, where he participated in Islamic prayers.

In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Sanwo-Olu shared reflections on the significance of the New Year and his administration’s commitment to Lagosians.

Sanwo-Olu revealed that he and other worshippers offered prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging Nigerians to continue supporting the federal government’s policies.

“We prayed for our President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and I encouraged Nigerians to keep supporting him as he takes difficult but necessary steps to address our nation’s social and economic challenges,” he wrote.

Expressing confidence in Lagos’ progress, the governor assured residents that 2026 would be a prosperous year for the state. However, he acknowledged the fleeting nature of political office, noting that this would be his last January 1 in office as governor.

“I am mindful that time is precious. I have only one more January 1 in office. No position lasts forever, and that reality keeps me grounded,” he stated. “Still, whatever challenges lie ahead, we will not give up. I believe Nigeria will be greater.”

At the Christian service, Dr. Bukola Oluwagbemiga, who delivered the sermon, emphasized reliance on God and the importance of allowing divine guidance in governance. Meanwhile, during the Muslim prayers, Dr. Abdullahi Jebe cautioned against hypocrisy and called for unity among leaders and citizens.

Sanwo-Olu concluded his message with a prayer for divine guidance in 2026.

“As we begin this year, my prayer is simple—that God will guide us all and that our state and our country will continue to rise.”

The governor’s New Year message struck a tone of hope, resilience, and determination as Lagos prepares for another year of development under his leadership.
