Sanwo-Olu Activates Grassroots Army for Tinubu’s Agenda

In a decisive move to fortify grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has officially inaugurated a network of coordinators for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope initiative, deploying them across all twenty local government areas of the state. The ceremony, which marked a significant escalation in the administration’s public sensitisation strategy, also witnessed the distribution of twenty brand-new buses to facilitate mobility and enhance the coordinators’ capacity for community penetration.

Cablenews24 reports that addressing a gathering of party stalwarts, traditional rulers, market leaders, religious figures, and community organisers at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasised that the Renewed Hope Ambassadors represents more than a political machinery; it is a civic movement designed to bridge the information gap between government policies and citizen awareness. He was unequivocal in distinguishing the initiative from conventional campaign structures, framing it instead as a vehicle for national development advocacy.

“This is not a campaign rally,” Sanwo-Olu declared with measured emphasis. “It is an activation of what we believe in; an activation of our resolute commitment and of like minds coming together to promote awareness. We are building a movement of informed citizens who understand the trajectory of our national development and can articulate the achievements and policy direction of President Tinubu’s administration to their neighbours, market associations, and religious congregations.”

The governor elaborated that the coordinators’ mandate extends beyond mere political mobilisation to encompass rigorous door-to-door enlightenment campaigns. These ambassadors are tasked with traversing neighbourhoods to disseminate detailed information regarding the administration’s infrastructure development projects across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, economic reform initiatives aimed at currency stabilisation, and targeted interventions to curb inflation and reduce food prices.

“The people need to know what the President has promised Nigerians and what he is already delivering,” Sanwo-Olu continued. “From the rehabilitation of federal roads to the revitalisation of our ports, from foreign direct investment inflows that signal growing international confidence in our economy to social intervention programmes cushioning the effects of subsidy removal—these are stories that must reach every household.”

The provision of twenty new buses to the local government coordinators underscores the administration’s commitment to operational efficiency. These vehicles are expected to serve as mobile command centres, enabling coordinators to penetrate remote communities, organise town hall meetings, and transport educational materials and personnel to areas where government presence has historically been minimal.

Speaking on behalf of the Director-General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Senator Hope Uzodinma, the South-West Zonal Ambassadorial Coordinator, Adebayo Adeyeye, reinforced the non-partisan, civic nature of the movement. He described the initiative as a national platform for engagement, sensitisation, and civic responsibility, carefully calibrated to foster active citizen participation in governance.

“The Renewed Hope Ambassadors is not a campaign organisation and not a political committee,” Adeyeye stated categorically. “It is a public engagement and sensitisation movement designed to help Nigerians better understand ongoing national programmes and actively participate in initiatives that improve their social and economic well-being. We are talking about health insurance schemes, agricultural support programmes, educational grants, and infrastructure development—issues that transcend party lines and affect every Nigerian regardless of political affiliation.”

The convergence of traditional institutions, market associations, religious bodies, and youth groups within the Renewed Hope framework signals a sophisticated approach to grassroots mobilisation that recognises the multi-layered nature of Nigerian society. By engaging traditional rulers who command respect in their domains, market leaders who influence economic narratives, and religious figures who shape moral discourse, the coordinators are positioned to penetrate the social fabric at multiple entry points.

As the coordinators assume their duties across Lagos’s twenty local government areas, the success of this initiative will likely be measured not by electoral outcomes alone, but by the extent to which citizens become informed participants in the democratic process, equipped with knowledge of government programmes and empowered to hold institutions accountable while supporting policies designed to advance national development.

The governor’s final charge to the coordinators resonated with a sense of historical responsibility: “You are not merely party agents; you are ambassadors of hope, bearers of good news, and educators of the people. Go from house to house, from market to market, from mosque to church, and let the people know that their government is working for them. Informed citizens are the bedrock of national progress, and you are the bridge between governance and the governed.”
