Yola, Adamawa State – Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State is set to host the 2026 Colloquium of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), a pivotal event poised to shape the future of Nigeria’s pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors. The gathering, scheduled to take place from March 29 to April 1, 2026, at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Yola, is anticipated to attract leading figures from across the pharmaceutical industry and related fields.

Cablenews24 reports that widely regarded as a historic convergence of stakeholders, the 2026 PSN Colloquium will serve as the grand prelude to the Centenary Anniversary of the Pharmaceutical Industry in Nigeria (1927–2027), a landmark celebration slated for next year in Abuja.

Speaking ahead of the event, Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim, President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria and host of the colloquium, confirmed that preparations are proceeding smoothly, attributing the success to Governor Fintiri’s proactive support and commitment. Ibrahim described the colloquium as a “strategic reset” for Nigeria’s healthcare system, offering an opportunity to reflect on past achievements while charting a forward-looking course for the future.

“With a rich history dating back to our founding, this anniversary serves as a reminder of the most memorable successes that have contributed to improved health outcomes across the nation,” Ibrahim said, paying tribute to the founding fathers and past leadership of the profession.

Ibrahim also highlighted the significance of selecting Adamawa State as the venue for this critical gathering, citing Governor Fintiri’s notable strides in strengthening healthcare delivery within the state. He commended the governor’s efforts in constructing and equipping modern cottage hospitals, as well as making substantial improvements to primary healthcare infrastructure. Furthermore, he noted that Governor Fintiri has demonstrated strong support for the pharmaceutical profession by appointing pharmacists to key leadership positions within the public service, fostering an environment where healthcare professionals can thrive.

Olumide Akintayo, Chairman of the Centenary Planning Committee and former PSN President, revealed that the 2026 colloquium will feature the historic launch of the Centenary Trust Fund, an initiative designed to bolster the long-term development of the pharmaceutical profession in Nigeria. Akintayo emphasized the Society’s intention to leverage the colloquium as a strategic platform for advocating a comprehensive transformation of the nation’s healthcare landscape, moving beyond the colonial-era dispensary system towards a modern and globally competitive pharmaceutical industry.

The colloquium’s theme, “Launching of Centenary Endowment Funds,” will be explored in depth through a keynote address delivered by renowned pharmaceutical scholar Cyril Odianose Usifoh. Discussions are expected to further advance the vision of positioning Nigeria as the “Pharmacy of Africa,” particularly in line with the strategic target of achieving 70 percent local drug production by 2030. This ambitious goal is widely regarded by stakeholders as a critical pillar of national health security.

Addressing the younger generation of pharmacists, Ibrahim stressed their role as the architects of the industry’s second century. He urged them to embrace the responsibility of shaping the future of the profession, emphasizing that the colloquium and the upcoming centenary celebrations are not merely ceremonial gatherings but vibrant platforms for knowledge exchange, professional networking, mentorship, and career advancement.

Ibrahim encouraged young professionals to take advantage of the mentorship opportunities available during the event, preparing themselves for a future in which technology, innovation, and local pharmaceutical manufacturing will play defining roles.

As Chief Host, Governor Fintiri has expressed Adamawa State’s readiness to provide a world-class environment for delegates from across Nigeria and beyond. Supporting the state’s hosting efforts are key officials, including Head of Service Pharm. Isa Shehu Ardo, Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly Bathiya Wesley, Commissioner for Health and Human Services Felix Tangwami, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health Pharm. Zirra Bubanani, and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Pharmaceutical Matters Pharm Nneka Okwuma.
