LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) recently convened a highly informative Technical/Business Meeting in Lagos, focusing on the crucial role of site surveys in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving offshore exploration landscape. The event was made possible in part by the generous sponsorship of BOCA Energy Resources Limited, a contribution that was warmly acknowledged by NAPE President, Mrs. Olajumoke Cecilia Ajayi.

Cablenews24 reports that during her welcome address, Mrs. Ajayi expressed her sincere appreciation to BOCA Energy Resources Limited for its commitment to supporting NAPE and its mission to promote technical knowledge sharing and foster professional engagement within Nigeria’s dynamic oil and gas sector. She emphasized that BOCA’s sponsorship underscored the company’s dedication to advancing industry capacity, driving innovation, and contributing to the sustainable development of Nigeria’s energy resources.

Mrs. Ajayi also lauded the meeting’s timely and relevant theme: “From Swamp to Deep Water: Designing Fit-for-Purpose Site Surveys Across Nigeria’s Offshore Blocks.” She emphasized that this theme is particularly critical in light of the increasing activities in Nigeria’s offshore exploration zones, where access to accurate and reliable survey data is becoming increasingly indispensable.

The NAPE President highlighted the vital role that site surveys play in de-risking exploration assets and enabling operators to make well-informed decisions before committing to costly drilling operations. Site surveys provide crucial data about the subsurface geology, potential hazards, and environmental conditions, enabling operators to minimize risks, optimize their exploration strategies, and ensure the safety and efficiency of their operations.

As more and more operators, including those involved in marginal fields, expand their activities into deeper offshore waters, the importance of accurate and comprehensive survey data cannot be overstated, Mrs. Ajayi emphasized. She pointed out that meticulous planning, grounded in reliable geophysical data, is essential for reducing uncertainties and optimizing investments in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

The NAPE President further encouraged all participants to actively engage in the technical session, ask relevant questions, and acquire valuable knowledge that would enhance their professional competence and better prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of deeper offshore exploration. She emphasized the importance of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning in ensuring the long-term success of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

The event attracted a diverse range of key stakeholders from across the industry, including exploration and production companies, service providers, regulatory agencies, and academic institutions. It is anticipated that the meeting will facilitate a deeper understanding of innovative survey methodologies, promote the adoption of best practices, and strengthen collaboration among operators, service providers, and regulators, ultimately contributing to the responsible and sustainable development of Nigeria’s oil and gas resources.
