A New Dawn for the Supremost Kegites Club: Historic Constitution Ratified at Global Summit
By Love Oyedokun
LAGOS, NIGERIA –In a landmark assembly that signifies a turning point for one of Nigeria’s most storied socio-cultural organizations, the Supremost Kegites Club International (SKCI) has officially ratified a new constitution. The “Comradium Global Summit,” held at the Martinos Hotel and Suites in Ikeja, served as the theater for this radical restructuring, aimed at replacing decades of informal traditions with a modern, legally binding framework.
The atmosphere at the summit was characterized by a rare sense of collective introspection. Chief Clement Oghene, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT)—known within the fraternity as Methuselah Ovia—opened the proceedings by challenging the delegates to move beyond rhetoric.
“You are here to transform your collective intentions into a binding legal document,” Oghene told the gathered members. He emphasized that the era of loose, uncoordinated governance is over, asserting that the newly ratified constitution will serve as the final authority on all club operations and member conduct moving forward.
A significant shift highlighted by the BOT Chairman is the move toward voluntary participation. The new framework dictates that membership in the non-student body is now rooted in “voluntary conviction” rather than the previous, often seamless transition from student chapters. This change is designed to ensure that those who remain active are truly committed to the organization’s evolving core values.
Perhaps the most striking aspect of the summit was the candid admission of failure by the club’s elder statesmen. Chief Kolawole Kazeem, a former World Chief, delivered a scathing and honest assessment of why the club had struggled for so long.
“We, the chiefesis, are the problem,” Kazeem declared, pointing to a systemic breakdown in leadership after members graduated from university life. According to Kazeem, the vacuum left by senior members who prioritized personal pursuits over institutional continuity led to the organization’s fragmentation. He highlighted two critical structural flaws:
- Erosion of Central Authority: The loss of recognition for the traditional headquarters in Ile-Ife.
- Leadership Diffusion: A culture where “everyone claims equal power,” effectively making meaningful leadership impossible.
Kazeem noted that the new constitution is the only viable tool to correct these errors, effectively resetting the hierarchy and restoring order to the Chiefs’ Conference.
Chief Olumide Oniyire, a World Chief of the Comradium and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), underscored the urgent need for legal grounding. He reflected on the irony that a nearly 60-year-old organization had managed to thrive for so long on little more than “unwritten conventions.”
“The contemporary world will no longer accommodate that,” Oniyire stated. He revealed that the current reform effort has been a long-gestating project, dating back to 2012. For over a decade, the organization navigated internal crises and factionalism, but the rigorous consultation process leading up to this summit was specifically designed to fill the “lacuna” in the club’s operational structure.
The summit was well-attended by a cross-section of society, reflecting the broad influence of the Kegites Club. Dignitaries and veteran members present included:
- Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (Member of the House of Representatives)
- Chief Barrister Olugbega Okenla (Pioneer Meleki)
- Patron Kayode Ajala (Renowned journalist and former editor of Hints Magazine)
- Chief Otunba Ojamadegun Olugbega Ogunleye * Chief Seyi Mekuleyi (Baba N’ọ́wọ̀)
- Chief Adeyemi Olaoti (Olu Dester)
- Soji Akanni
With the constitution now ratified, the Supremost Kegites Club International transitions into a phase of structural transition. The Board of Trustees will shift toward a policy-guidance role, while the organization prepares to elect new officers empowered by the new charter to steer the club’s affairs.
For many participants, the summit was more than just a procedural meeting; it was a reconciliation process. By admitting their past failures and codifying a new future, the Kegites have taken a decisive step toward restoring the dignity and purpose of their long-standing institution. The success of this transition
