Dangote Partners thyssenkrupp for Massive Fertilizer Expansion

Dangote Fertiliser Limited (DFL) has signed a major licensing agreement with thyssenkrupp Uhde Fertilizer Technology (UFT) to significantly expand its Nigerian production capacity. The deal involves deploying UFT’s advanced Fluid Bed Granulation Technology across four new urea granulation units in Lekki.

Cablenews24 reports that this expansion is colossal: each of the four new plants will produce 4,235 metric tons per day, boosting DFL’s total annual urea granule output from 2.65 million tons to over 8 million tons.

The agreement includes the technology license, Process Design Package (PDP), and proprietary equipment like granulators and scrubbers.

Focus on Efficiency and Green Production The new facilities will utilize UFT’s energy-efficient scrubbing system to minimize emissions, meeting stringent environmental standards. Furthermore, the inclusion of Ammonia Convert Technology (ACT) will integrate ammonium sulfate byproducts into the urea granules, eliminating waste streams entirely.

Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, stated the expansion reflects the commitment to “agricultural self-sufficiency and industrial progress across Africa,” ensuring high-quality urea that meets global standards while reducing environmental impact.
