Navy, Dangote Group Discuss Enhanced Refinery Security
By Love Oyedokun
Lekki, Lagos – The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) of the Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral AA Mustapha GSS, recently conducted a crucial visit to the Dangote Refinery in Lekki, solidifying a partnership aimed at bolstering the security of the strategically important facility. The meeting, held on Friday, January 23, 2026, saw Rear Admiral Mustapha engaging with Alhaji Aliko Dangote, represented by Hajiya Fatima Dangote, and other key executives from the Dangote Group.
Cablenews24 reports that this visit was a direct follow-up to initial discussions held just days prior, on January 18, 2026, at the Dangote Group’s corporate headquarters in Ikoyi. The primary focus of these high-level talks centered on the implementation of cutting-edge security measures designed to safeguard the refinery, recognized as a vital National Strategic Asset.
A key component of the proposed security enhancements involves the deployment of integrated surveillance systems. These systems will incorporate long-range cameras, advanced radar technology, and Automatic Identification System (AIS) capabilities, providing comprehensive monitoring of the refinery’s surroundings.
Furthermore, discussions revolved around the establishment of strategically positioned choke points, also referred to as Defense Outposts. These outposts will be located at key areas around the refinery, along the lagoon, and in coastal zones, providing a layered defense system to deter potential threats.
Beyond technological advancements and strategic positioning, the meeting also addressed the crucial aspects of personnel mobility and welfare. Ensuring that naval personnel deployed to the area are adequately equipped and supported is paramount to the success of the security mission.
Hajiya Fatima Dangote, representing the Dangote Group, reaffirmed the organization’s unwavering commitment to implementing the discussed security measures. She emphasized the Dangote Group’s understanding of the refinery’s significance as a National Strategic Asset and their dedication to ensuring its protection.
The collaboration between the Western Naval Command and the Dangote Group signifies a proactive approach to safeguarding critical infrastructure in Nigeria. By combining the Navy’s expertise in maritime security with the Dangote Group’s resources and commitment, the partnership aims to create a robust security framework that will deter threats and ensure the continued operation of the Dangote Refinery. The refinery is expected to significantly contribute to Nigeria’s energy independence and economic growth upon completion.
