Renewed Hope Initiative Supports 1,000 Lagos Women With Tools

No fewer that a thousand women entrepreneurs across Lagos State received a significant boost to their businesses on Saturday as the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), distributed vital empowerment tools to them at the Governor’s Office.

Cablenews24 reports that the event, a key part of a broader national rollout coordinated with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), saw beneficiaries receive high-value items including deep-chest freezers, maxi gas cookers with ovens, generators, and industrial grinding machines.

This Lagos distribution stands out nationally due to a major contribution from the State Government. While the core Renewed Hope Initiative Tools /SDGs program provided for 500 women per state in the Southwest zone, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu significantly augmented the effort.

“I am exceptionally pleased to announce that our amiable Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has supported this programme with an additional 500 empowerment items,” declared Senator Tinubu during the flag-off ceremony. “This brings the total number of beneficiaries in Lagos State to 1,000 women. I commend Mr. Governor profoundly for this impactful gesture and his unwavering commitment to the growth and development of women in Lagos State.”

This Online News Medium reports that the Lagos event marks the Southwest launch of a nationwide program aiming to empower 18,500 women across all six of Nigeria’s geopolitical zones. Similar distributions have already occurred in the North Central and South-South zones, with other regions to follow. Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, OFR, Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, was acknowledged for her crucial role in enabling the initiative.

The distributed  Renewed Hope Initiative tools are specifically chosen to enable women to start or significantly scale up income-generating ventures. Deep freezers support food preservation businesses, the maxi cookers cater to catering and food sales, generators ensure power reliability, and industrial grinders enhance production capacity for food processing enterprises. Distribution within Lagos is being overseen by the State’s First Lady, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, and the RHI State Coordinator.

Senator Tinubu urged the beneficiaries to utilize the resources wisely and responsibly. “These tools hold the potential to transform your livelihoods,” she emphasized. “Use them diligently to create better lives for yourselves and your families, and to contribute positively to our communities.”

The First Lady expressed her gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu, Dr. (Mrs.) Sanwo-Olu, and the Office of the SSA to the President on SDGs for their partnership and warm hospitality, underscoring the collaborative effort behind Lagos’s enhanced support for women’s economic empowerment.
