Ending Period Poverty: Oluremi Tinubu’s Vision for Nigeria’s Future

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has officially launched the nationwide distribution of the Flow with Confidence Menstrual Hygiene packs in Gombe.

Cablenews24 reports that this initiative is a crucial step towards enhancing menstrual health and empowering schoolgirls by fostering knowledge, dignity, and confidence through improved hygiene practices.

“In today’s world, no girl should miss school due to the inability to afford sanitary products,” stated the First Lady. “It is unacceptable that many girls, especially in rural areas, face significant challenges during their menstrual cycles. Some resort to unsafe alternatives, while others miss school altogether, jeopardizing their education. This trend must end, and our initiative aims to address this issue.”

Senator Tinubu urged traditional, religious, and community leaders to ensure the effective distribution of the sanitary pads. Each state and the Federal Capital Territory will receive 10,000 packs, with the First Lady of Gombe State receiving the first batch for distribution to deserving girls in rural communities. Each beneficiary will receive a year’s supply of sanitary pads.

Prof. Ali Pate, the coordinating minister for health and social welfare, and Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, both expressed their commitment to supporting the initiative by increasing the availability of supplies for girls in need.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State praised the First Lady for her ongoing efforts in health, agriculture, economic empowerment, and education. Earlier, Senator Tinubu also inaugurated the 1st Gombe State Health Summit, emphasizing that health is a pathway to economic prosperity and national development.
